Make your own Cheap Bamboo Shades
Cheap Bamboo Shades are now one of the most popular types of window Cheap Bamboo Shades due to its inherent quality of combining form and function. These Cheap Bamboo Shades can be bought in different styles in home decor stores and even over the Internet. However, for those who are inclined and have the ability, it is possible to make your own Cheap Bamboo Shades.
First, you will need the following: bamboo or bamboo slats, sulfur powder, pneumatic press, punch, clear wood base coat, face coat, and pull cords. The pull cords should be four feet longer than the Cheap Bamboo Shades. Also needed are two pieces of wood (1/8" thick and a bit shorter than the slats), rivets, washers, rivet gun, eight metal rings about half an inch in diameter, two pulleys with stopper, two eyelets half an inch in diameter and mounting eyelets. Now, as to making of the Cheap Bamboo Shades itself: Cut the bamboo stems or slats into strips. Peel the skin off the bamboo slats and disinfect with a solution made from the sulfur powder. Disinfect for ten to twelve hours. After disinfecting, dry the slats under the sun completely. The drying process depends on the type of bamboo you have. It is important to check that the slats are a hundred percent dried, thus the drying process may take a few hours if you have a lot of sun or a couple of days. When the slats are dried, coat them with adhesive. Using a pneumatic press, join the coated bamboo strips to form a rectangular plate. Smoothen the surface of the slats by grinding and covering with the base coating followed by the face coating. At this point you are now halfway through making your Cheap Bamboo Shades. You just now have to attach the pull cords to complete the process. Drill two holes on the two pieces of wood for mounting the pulleys. After drilling, put the joined slats between these two pieces then insert the rivets to attach. Mount the pulleys, making sure that they are about three to four inches away from the end of the head rail. This ensures that the finished product will be balanced. Attach the metal rings through the cord in the tied slats in an upward direction and aligned with the pulleys. The distance of the rings should be proportional. Tie the cord tightly and securely in the first ring as it will be holding all the weight once the shade is rolled up. Upon reaching the top, insert the eyelets, running the cord through on each side. Then, put the cord through the pulleys, making sure the cord is between the stopper and pulley wheel, and secure at the head rail. Then, attach the mounting eyelets. Lastly, double check that all parts are secure. Now, you can hang the Cheap Bamboo Shadesthat you made yourself!
